Old Stone Cannibal Jar | Timeless character, handcrafted strength
The Cannibal Jar is the largest and most sculptural piece in our Old Stone Range. Each jar is individually hand-shaped from high-fired earthenware, then sand-blasted after firing to remove the glaze and expose a raw, textured surface with the appearance of naturally weathered stone.
Its scale and form make it well suited to prominent positions in the garden.
Common applications include:
- A matched pair either side of a front entrance or gateway
- A single jar positioned at the end of a driveway or path as a focal point
- Planted with a single architectural specimen, such as an agave, yucca, or grass tree
- Left unplanted as a standalone sculptural element in a gravel or paved courtyard
- Grouped with a Mod Pond or Sala Pond to create a mixed display of forms and textures
Because the jar is unplanted in many applications, it works particularly well in spaces where a strong visual anchor is needed without ongoing planting maintenance. When planted, a single upright or architectural species is recommended to complement rather than compete with the jar’s form.
As with every piece in the Old Stone Range, minor variation in surface texture and tone should be expected between individual jars. This is a result of the handmade production process and is characteristic of the range rather than a defect.
